My love of color and my deep connection to nature have made flowers and foliage the ideal subject for my work. My favorite day is one spent painting in the middle of a beautiful garden, with the sun shining and bees buzzing around me as I work.
I also photograph gardens, seeking them out wherever am, whether it is in my neighbors front yard in the Hudson Valley or Queen Mary's Rose Garden in London, all become images which inform my studio work. When I stand before a blank canvas, I consider myself to be a composer. Whether en plein air or in the studio, I start with one specific type of flower and that becomes the first note of my composition. From that moment on, I let the painting determine what it needs choosing flowers and foliage for their shape and color to create a balanced and harmonious painting. My goal is for my work is to capture the beautiful chaos of nature and bring into any space the color, sunshine and joy I experience while painting within a garden. Education
